Massage and Sleep
Are you looking for new ways to move past your sleep troubles? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that a third of US adults get less than the recommended amount of sleep. Even worse, chronic lack of sleep can result in diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, or even heart disease.
The good news: getting a regular massage might just be the answer — and an enjoyable one at that. For example, one study conducted in China found that 76% of people treated regularly with massage therapy no longer experienced symptoms of insomnia.
And dozens of independent studies found that massage can improve sleep for people with a wide variety of medical ailments, including more common occurrences like lower back pain and migraines.
Find out if massage is the right solution for your sleep woes. This article will explore the different kinds of massage therapy and which could be the best fit for you. Wave goodbye to restless nights and sleeping pills, and say hello to deeply relaxing and fulfilling massages instead.
One of the most common questions about massage therapy is how often one should get a massage. The right answer differs from client to client. How often you get a massage depends on many factors. These include your general health, the reason for getting a massage, how you felt after your last session, your time, and of course, your budget. Today I”ll focus on the purpose of your massage as a factor in deciding how often to schedule your appointments.
Why Are You Getting a Massage? Before you and your massage therapist decide on a schedule, you need to talk about why you”re coming in for treatment and the specific modalities that will be used.
General Relaxation Some people get massages for health maintenance and general relaxation. The purpose of these sessions is to support proper body functions, including blood circulation and joint flexibility. Regular sessions like these prevent pain, stress points, and muscle tension from building up.Massage therapy for relaxation may be scheduled every three or four months.
Stress Relief In spite of regular massages for relaxation, there may be times when you will experience periods of higher stress and greater muscle tension. If you are in a high-stress job or work in an environment that requires you to be in one position for a prolonged period of time, you may develop tightly-knotted muscles in your back, arms and shoulders. These may result in reduced movement and significant pain. In addition, constant stress increases your risk of heart disease.
To help you cope with many of your stressful situations, you should get a massage once or twice a month.
Sports Performance and Recovery Athletes and other individuals who engage in intense physical activity require specialized massage therapy to enhance performance, prevent injury, and speed up their muscles” recovery. Competitive sports, for example, puts a lot of stress on the body. Massage therapy helps to strengthen muscles before the activity, and to heal afterward. The frequency of sessions may range from one to three times a week to three times a month.
Treatment of Chronic Issues If massage therapy is performed as part of treatment for specific issues, the frequency varies according to the type of illness or injury, as well as overall health. Relief from chronic pain may only be achieved after a program of therapy that includes up to three sessions a week, and additional sessions at diminishing frequency over a few months. Chronic issues that may benefit from massage therapy include back pain, joint pain and localized inflammation.
A once- or twice-a-month massage will go a long way towards helping you feel great. . There are many other reasons people come in for massage therapy. Likewise, there are additional considerations to take when you think about how often to get a massage. These include the following:
- Your General Health
- If you are a fairly healthy person, with no injuries or chronic conditions, you can pretty much get a massage as often as you want. If you”re suffering from an injury or chronic illness that could benefit from massage, you might come in for regular treatment with a focus on your specific condition.
- How You Felt After Your Last Session
- Every time you get a massage, you should evaluate whether you are getting the maximum benefits that you want. If your chronic pain is getting better through massage, you and your therapist might change your schedule accordingly.
- Your Resources
- Your time and finances are important factors to consider when scheduling your appointments. Make the most out of your resources by going to an excellent therapist and by using . If you want to know more about how often to get massage therapy that would work for your situation and resources,
1.) Improves Blood Circulation
Massage stimulates your blood vessels and enhances the blood flow to the vital organs of the body. Massages can enhance the substance interchange between tissue cells and blood which, in turn, maintains tissue metabolism. Increased blood flow insures that the nutrients are adequately supplied to the vital parts of the body.
Adv
2.) Improves Muscle Strength
While regular workout is the best way to build muscle strength, massages can help relax the muscles after a high level of physical stress. This maintains muscle elastic and strength making you less susceptible to muscle related injuries. Massage is a must for body building athletes to maintain muscle immunity against injuries.
3.) Fat Reduction
Our body stores the fat in capsule like appendages called fat cells. Research shows that if proper massage is performed in the area with excess fat accumulation, it bursts the fat capsules and makes it ready for absorption inside the body. Combined with proper exercise and diet massage can cut down high levels of excess fat in your body.
4.)Under constant stress of work and irregular dietary habits, an individual’s body metabolism can often become sluggish and can result in increased body weight due to accumulation of fat. Studies show that massage can not only aid with muscle relaxation and recovery but can also stimulate body metabolism. An active body metabolism means that your body can burn up nutrients much quicker and will lead to reduced fat.
5.) Cut That Cellulite Down
The main component of accumulated body fat is cellulite. If your thighs and buttocks are ailed by accumulated cellulite, massage can definitely help. Massaging in the cellulite laden areas can distribute the fat and releasing it into the body for absorption. The metabolism also gets stimulated by a massage which helps cut down cellulite in your body.
Massage has existed since the ancient civilizations as a means for healing and body relaxation. Weight loss has become a major issue in the US and excess fat has become one of the major causes of mortality in developed nations. One can also visit weight-loss and healthcare product reviews by looking a new fat burners information; providing information on several means for weight loss and body building. Massaging after high levels of physical work can help the muscles relax and repair. Unlike popular belief it is certainly not a fake fat loss fad and poses no threat to an individual through any side effects.
Recently I have had encounters with people coming in with back pain, especially lower area. I have done massages from head to toe, including abdominal area, pelvic, and on your back side through the kidney area and including buttocks.
Back in 2005 while in Massage School, we had learned a great deal in massaging the entire body! I have never deviated from that learning experience. Now here's the reason I bring up the stomach, pelvic and lower back through buttocks.
CONSTIPATION?? I have read articles over and over on this Poop problem! It does cause back issues because of the fact you are not totally emptying your colon or intestine areas and it is causing inflammation and poisoning your system.. I have an article that is interesting to read and would like to share it.
http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/constipation-back-pain-related/
While you are in my office.. YOU WILL ALWAYS, I MEAN ALWAYS GET A STOMACH MASSAGE! NO MATTER WHAT!! Now with that being said if you are having severe abdominal issues, feel full, having less than 3 easy bowl movements a week, coming in for back issues and I have not resolved it with massage, you should tell me and I can work deeper and longer on your stomach area! NO CHARGE!! Many people including myself have constipation along with back issues.
If these symptoms still occur after and you have no relief. I'm sure you've heard this many times consult your doctor. There are also other alternatives to this annoying issue, me personally never done it but I have heard a great deal of positive responses.
Homeopathic: Coffee enema yes its a real thing, If I were to do this I would find a practitioner that can help you do this. Otherwise there is a how to do yourself
http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-7065/10-reasons-why-you-should-try-a-coffee-enema.html
There are also things called colon cleanse you can buy over the counter to see if that works. Epsom salt can help with pushing all the waste out better than miralax! Just make sure to stay home till that goes through because it does come on very intense and you won't have control over it. So there's my piece of the poop puzzle talk.
The Application of Massage in Psychogenic Disorders by Mario-Paul Cassar(more info)listed in massage, originally published in issue 100 - June 2004
The fact that relaxation is the most beneficial effect of massage is indisputable, particularly among students and therapists of massage therapy. It is important that as practitioners of massage we periodically review the emotional states that present so often in our practice and the application of massage in these dysfunctions. Some 'psychogenic disorders' are essentially manifestations of emotional angst, such as depression and stress. Other conditions can be more complex and may have psychogenic as well as neurological characteristics, such as behavior problems. Behavior disorders take into account dysfunctions where the subject, in most cases a child, has difficulty with maintaining alertness, communicating, social skills, physical contact and so forth. Although rather limited, research into the use of massage therapy for these patients indicates that it can lead to some positive changes. One of the most recent and detailed sources of research into the effects of massage has been The Touch Research Institutes (University of Miami School of Medicine and Nova Southeastern University, Florida, USA) headed by Tiffany Field PhD.Massage is of immense benefit in several 'emotional' situations provided that its goals and limitations are well defined, both to the therapist and the patient. It can be applied in general mental-emotional states such postnatal depression, bereavement, anxiety, withdrawal from drugs, anorexia, sexual abuse and panic attacks. Whilst these emotional traumas have different aspects, the goal of the massage is more or less common to all of them. People under any form of mental-emotional stress can benefit from touch, support and relaxation.

Weather and Mood!!! Temperature tantrums???
- Temperature, wind, and sunlight were found to have an effect on negative mood. Sunlight seemed to play a role on how tired people said they were.
- Wind had more of a negative effect on mood in spring and summer than in fall and winter.
- Sunlight had a mitigating effect on whether people reported they were tired on days when it rained.
- People were so varied in how they responded that researchers write that a mood-weather link may still exist for individuals.
- When days become shorter, some people's moods mirrored that, while others actually felt more positive feelings.
Sunlight makes us more generous.
From the statistical data provided by the study, investigators proposed sunlight directly affects our mood. In the words of Dr. Mehta,
Winter can make you feel negative.
Although you might not think much of your wintertime-blues, SAD can leave people feeling lethargic and apathetic for as long as months.http://elitedaily.com/life/culture/temperature-tantrums-weather-actually-affect-mood
When your in my office I try my best not only to give the best massage but also have some laughs to lighten up the mood or possibly help those whom seem to feel anxious about being massaged or those whom feel like they are saddened by something going on in their lives. Although I am not in no means a counselor, or even qualified by the state or by a piece of paper, in the guidance of exactly the proper training. But.... I know what being a slave to depression, anxiety or often the occasional upheavals, as with most people dealing with every curb or turn, stops or racing down the road called LIFE!! I always listen, hear exactly what your saying, and if I make a hmm or my face get a screwed up look.. that just means I am processing the information and deciding what I should or should not say! I usually end up extremely blunt and often say exactly what others may beat around the bush at! Don't take any thing the wrong way or that I am being mean or overly nice! Its how I am!! I will always tell you the truth even if it hurts. ( your Massage Therapist )
This article I found and you can look it up on your own> I usually site a web page but this one asked me not to add it. It messes with some search engine!
There are several types of depression and you may or may not know whom has it. Unless they are really showing symptoms in which cases some do not.
I know of at least 15 to 20 plus people and I would say each of them seem normal or happy. When I ask questions or start talking about different things, I start to notice speech patterns, eye movements, uncomfortable body language and sometimes the occasional changing of the subject. We just do not notice until something happens!
For instance the recent suicide of Actor Robin Williams: when we think of him we automatically think "Ms Doutfire" a stand up comedian, Mork and Mindy, a man whom is always laughing, smiling or acting goofy. Well now after reading his biography we find out
Williams said that partly due to the stress of doing stand-up, he started using drugs and alcohol early in his career. He further said that he never drank or took drugs while on stage but occasionally performed when ill with a hangover from the previous day. During the period he was using cocaine, he said that it made him paranoid when performing on stage.
A man who had been married and divorced 3 times. Now that has to be hitting some low spots and can cause depression.
Massage helps with all this!
The next few points on depression is from a website I thought was interesting and a good read. http://www.everydayhealth.com hopefully they don't email me saying to take this off. .
- Feeling sad for a long time
- Crying for no reason
- Feeling worthless
- Having very little energy
- Losing interest in pleasurable activities
- Feeling overly happy, excited, and, confident
- Feeling irritable, aggressive, and "wired"
- Having uncontrollable racing thoughts or speech
- Thinking of yourself as very important, gifted, or special
- Making poor judgments
- Engaging in risky behavior
How Massage Therapy works on helping to reduce Cholesterol!
I had a caller ask me if Massage Therapy can reduce his high cholesterol,
“In an effort to evaluate the effects of massage on anxiety, the immune system and blood cholesterol levels, Japanese researchers examined participants receiving massage before and after a 25-minute session. Results of the study compared baseline measures to post-massage measures, and there were significant improvement in all areas. As determined by blood tests, participants had lower total cholesterol levels after receiving A Massage.
The pain from sitting
The Mayhem Created by Sitting: Dealing with a Cranky Iliopsoas
Recently, it has been suggested that sitting is the new smoking. The American Cancer Society did a study that showed women that sat for more than six hours a day had a 37% increased risk of dying compared to those that sat for three hours a day.
This was the case even if they exercised. Another study by the University of South Carolina discovered that men that sat (either watching TV or driving) for 23 hours per week or more were 64% more likely to die of heart disease compared to men that sat for 11 hours per week or less. Once again, this was true even if they exercised regularly. So it seems we're not exempt from health issues if we workout in the morning and chill out on the couch for the rest of the day. The above listed studies addressed death and general inactivity; this discussion will be a little less morbid and will review the musculoskeletal impact of sitting and will highlight the mayhem created by a cranky iliopsoas. Parkinsonism results from the degeneration of dopamine-producing nerve cells in the brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that stimulates motor neurons, the nerve cells that control muscles. When dopamine production is depleted, the motor system nerves are unable to control movement and coordination. People with Parkinson's disease have lost 80% or more of their dopamine-producing cells by the time symptoms appear. While symptoms may appear at any age, the average age of onset is 60 years old.
According to a 2002 study conducted by the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami, along with staff from the university's neurology department and Duke University's pharmacology department, Parkinson's disease can be reduced by massage therapy In this study, the group of adults with Parkinson's disease who received two massages a week for five weeks experienced improved daily functioning, increased quality of sleep and decreased stress-hormone levels. The massage consisted of 15 minutes in the prone position, focusing on the back, buttocks, ribs, thighs, calves and feet; and 15 minutes in the supine position, focusing on the thighs, lower legs, feet, hands, forearms, upper arms, neck, face and head. The study's authors reported, "These findings suggest that massage therapy enhances functioning in progressive or degenerative central nervous system disorders or conditions."While several different massage modalities have been researched in the context of Parkinsonism, including Trager, Alexander Technique and Swedish massage, all modalities report improvement in function, from the reduction of rigidity and improvement of sleep, to the reduction of tremor and increase of daily activity stamina.Don't be afraid of working with clients suffering from Parkinson's disease. The pathology of this condition and the success reported with massage therapy make physical manipulation of the musculoskeletal system an ideal Parkinsonism management component. Being familiar with this disease and welcoming those affected can bring an enormous amount of satisfaction to any compassionate body worker.http://www.integrative-healthcare.org
Stroke patients!
A study was recently done in Sweden on the benefits of massage on stroke patients – with very pleasing results. The results showed that patients who received tactile massage each day had a significantly higher quality of life as well as an improvement in general hygiene and health. They also required less medication – in particular for depression and pain.
Strokes, as we mentioned before, are usually caused by blood clots, so the fact that massage increases circulation can be incredibly beneficial to stroke victims. It can also help improve brain function which is essential to rehabilitation.
Massage Your Way to Crohns Relaxation
The mind is a powerful tool that can help you overcome physical suffering if you know how to use it. However, not everyone can benefit from guided imagery. Therefore, it’s not a bad idea to explore other forms of alternative and complimentary treatment such as massage therapy to help bring some Crohn’s relaxtion. What is massage therapy? Massage therapy is the method of applying various pressure techniques to the body’s muscular structure and soft tissues, in order to improve various systems in the body including the musculoskeletal, circulatory-lymphatic and nervous systems. The most common massage techniques include applying stationary or moveable pressure, kneading, holding, rocking, friction or vibration. These techniques are usually applied with the hands, but the elbows, forearms or feet can also be used. General message therapy benefits – Massage therapy offers many physical and mental benefits that may include: -Full body relaxation - Relieves tight, aching and tired muscles - Increases range of motion and flexibility - Calms the nervous system - Lowers heart rate and blood pressure - Relieves chronic pain - Helps speed recovery from illness and injury - Strengthening of the immune system - Helps one achieve mental relaxation - Encourages goodnight sleep - Alleviates tension headaches - Reduces stress. How does massage therapy benefit Crohn’s sufferers? Studies, conducted on massage therapy as treatment for Crohn’s disease symptoms, found that massage therapy can have a powerful and positive effect on the emotional distress that is psychologically caused by the condition. Stress plays an integral role in Crohn’s disease symptoms. Stress has been know to make Crohn’s symptoms worse, which often results in pain and in some cases even more serious conditions that require hospitalization and can lead to death. Massage therapy has also provided many Crohn’s sufferers relief from pain, and also reduces the frequency of attacks. Different types of massages. There a diverse number of massage techniques that can be combined or used separately depending on the needs of the individual. For those with Crohn’s disease, some massage therapies that may be used include but are not limited to: Swedish massage – This is the most common massage used in North America and is characterized by long smooth motions, kneading or applying friction to the surface of the muscles. This type of massage encourages overall relaxation, improves circulation, and relieves tension within the muscles. Deep tissue massage – This massage involves the use of deep slow stroking motions, friction, or direct pressure to the muscles. Intense pressure is applied for this massage to penetrate deeper into the muscles. It helps relieve chronic muscle tension. Neuro muscular massage – This massage focuses on the deep penetration of individual muscles. Its purpose is to increase blood flow and release knots of tension that exist in muscles connected to other areas of the body where pain is present. The release of this muscle tension often reduces painful symptoms. Acupressure – this is a massage-like therapy similar to acupuncture. However, pressure is applied to the specific points within the acupuncture meridians with the finger or thumb, and not with acupuncture needles. Like neuro muscular massage, acupressure is designed to help relieve painful symptoms and also works to bring balance to the body and mind. If you are considering massage therapy, seek treatment from a qualified massage therapist who has experience treating inflammatory bowel disease symptoms. Since you are seeking relief from Crohn’s symptoms, you need to find someone who understands how to use different massage techniques and applies the right amount of pressure. For instance, applying too much pressure can cause the body to tense, while not enough pressure will lead to insufficient results. Thus, each person receiving massage therapy needs to be accessed differently. To find a skilled massage therapist that specializes in crohn’s relaxtion ask your health care provider, a physiotherapist, your local hospital, check the yellow pages or conduct a search online.
I am seeing more and more on this issue of massage and Crohn’s relief….I am a firm believer in it and I am glad to see someone agreeing with me on how much stress can affect our system
What are the symptoms of swine flu (H1N1
Symptoms of swine flu are similar to most influenza infections: fever (100F or greater), cough, nasal secretions, fatigue, and headache, with fatigue being reported in most infected individuals. Some patients also get nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In Mexico, many of the patients are young adults, which made some investigators speculate that a strong immune response may cause some collateral tissue damage. Some patients develop severe respiratory symptoms and need respiratory support (such as a ventilator to breathe for the patient). Patients can get pneumonia (bacterial secondary infection) if the viral infection persists, and some can develop seizures. Death often occurs from secondary bacterial infection of the lungs; appropriate antibiotics need to be used in these patients. The usual mortality (death) rate for typical influenza A is about 0.1%, while the 1918 "Spanish flu" epidemic had an estimated mortality rate ranging from 2%-20%. Swine flu in Mexico (as of April 2009) has had about 160 deaths and about 2,500 confirmed cases, which would correspond to a mortality rate of about 6%, but these initial data have been revised and the mortality rate currently in Mexico is estimated to be much lower. By June 2009, the virus had reached 74 different countries on every continent except Antarctica, and by September 2009, the virus had been reported in most countries in the world. Fortunately, the mortality rate as of October 2009 has been low but higher than for the conventional flu (average conventional flu mortality rate is about 36,000 per year; projected novel H1N1 flu mortality rate is 90,000 per year in the U.S. as determined by the president's advisory committee).
How Heat Affects the Body
Sweating, by itself, does nothing to cool the body, unless the water is removed by evaporation, and high relative humidity retards evaporation. The evaporation process itself works this way: the heat energy required to evaporate the sweat is extracted from the body, thereby cooling it. Under conditions of high temperature (above 90 degrees) and high relative humidity, the body is doing everything it can to maintain 98.6 degrees inside. The heart is pumping a torrent of blood through dilated circulatory vessels; the sweat glands are pouring liquid-including essential dissolved chemicals, like sodium and chloride onto the surface of the skin.
Heat disorders generally have to do with a reduction or collapse of the body’s ability to shed heat by circulatory changes and sweating, or a chemical (salt) imbalance caused by too much sweating. When heat gain exceeds the level the body can remove, or when the body cannot compensate for fluids and salt lost through perspiration, the temperature of the body’s inner core begins to rise and heat-related illness may develop.
Sunburn, with its ultraviolet radiation burns, can significantly retard the skin’s ability to shed excess heat. Studies indicate that, other things being equal, the severity of heat disorders tend to increase with age-heat cramps in a 17-year-old may be heat exhaustion in someone 40, and heat stroke in a person over 60.
Massage can help with circulation and keep the body cooled down during the summer heat.
Tantra For Women – An Exercise To Awaken Sensuality
As a tantra teacher, I condemn the excessive cultural emphasis placed on a man's virility, and on the fact that a man's orgasm is essential for procreation. Ancient tantra has always recognized that women, whose sexual satisfaction has ironically been downplayed for years, are the ones who are capable of multiple orgasms.
• More intimacy and closeness
• Overall life satisfaction
• Confidence in a secure, happy relationship
Sexual activity may decrease for some women during and after menopause. The symptoms of menopause, such as drier genital tissues and lower estrogen levels, may contribute to a decreased interest in sex. However, estrogen creams and estrogen pills can restore elasticity and secretions in the genital area, and soluble lubricants may also help make sexual intercourse more pleasurable.
• Lie on your back with your arms along your sides and relax.
• Slowly exhale as you squeeze your 1st and 2nd chakras and the adjoining muscles, trying to pull your energy as deeply inward as you can. Do not strain while squeezing – this tantra exercise is not meant to be exhausting
• Repeat the inhaling and exhaling as you squeeze 1st and 2nd chakra muscles 10-15 times slowly
Tantra for women influences mind, body and soul simultaneously and is best practiced under the careful guidance and supervision of a Practitioner.
Women please continue to read further down as we do not have a prostate but we have many other organs and the same issues as a man. Such as Restless leg syndrome. so please keep on reading through and if your gentlemen have some of these symptoms please do not fret on the therapist I am very professional and I can assure you there is no reason not to trust my therapeutic massages. Thank you.
Massage Therapy Styles and Health Benefits
Before It Ever Even Reaches Your Prostate.
Whenever you cut off the blood supply to any part of your body, you will suffer! Your prostate can be especially vulnerable. Sitting in a chair for too long at one time is the primary cause of blood stagnation in your legs and lower abdomen.
Major blood vessels that supply blood to your prostate are often pinched closed inches away from that area. If this is the case, massaging just your prostate area will not remedy the flow where it needs to be remedied. That means the pain will not go away until you get the blood moving in the area that is causing the problem.
Pain is also known to radiate. A congestion in one part of your body can appear as a pain in a nearby area.
And, this is where the Peripheral Prostate Massage can work seeming Miracles!
Your Worst Enemies!
We developed as hunters and gatherers. All day long our bodies moved. Sitting was more brief. Rest was lying down in sleep. Our blood moved much much more freely than it commonly does in our civilized way of life today.
Then you sit in your car on the way home, where you sit down to dinner. Then you probably sit and watch the news or some TV.
Just because we are alive and our hearts are beating we assume our blood is moving as it should. In our civilized life style, it often is not flowing freely to different areas in our bodies.
That is what happens to you when you sit in a chair for too long.
You are pinching off so many vessels all day long! And that causes all kinds of problems, pains, and discomforts!
Use the magic of a Peripheral Prostate Massage to do this!
The Correct Massage
That's all massage treatment really does. Massage gives stimulation to an area. It moves the blood and helps it get moving on it's own again. The fresh blood is what is really making everything feel so good after a massage!
When we get older (or just abuse ourselves too much), our vessels are more like plastic drinking straws. When you bend them too much they collapse easily (just like when you bend a drinking straw too far and it collapses in a spot). Then the blood has a very hard time getting through. And it moves very slowly.
If the internal prostate massage treatment is not working effectively enough,
May Be The Answer For You!
If you are in pain now, you will have to take some extra time each day to do some massaging and get the blood moving freely again. Just because you stand up once in a while, it does not mean the blood just rushes back to the congested areas.
There are four Peripheral Prostate Massages:
TUESDAY, Jan. 5 (Health Day News) -- Men with restless leg syndrome are more likely to have erectile dysfunction, new research suggests, but it's not clear how the two conditions are related.
Restless leg syndrome "afflicts a significant portion of our population and in a minority of cases can cause insomnia and other important consequences," said Dr. Robert Vorona, an associate professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Virginia who studies sleep disorders.
In the new study, published Jan. 1 in the journal Sleep, Gao and colleagues examined responses from 23,119 medical professionals, including physicians, veterinarians and pharmacists, who were asked questions about restless leg syndrome in 2002.
After researchers adjusted their statistics to reduce the effect of age on the results, they found that those with the most restless leg syndrome symptoms were about twice as likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction. The rate was still higher after the researchers adjusted their figures to account for the effects of other factors, such as antidepressant use and smoking.
"There is an association between these two conditions, but we still don't know the exact mechanism," Gao said. His team said further research is warranted.
As for the current study, Vorona said it makes sense that the two conditions might be linked "on a physiological basis," perhaps through dopamine.
More information
External prostate massage stimulates the prostate gland manually or with a special massage machine. Although it does not cure any known prostate problems, massage can provide relief from the symptoms of several prostate issues, including prostatitis. Benefits include improved urine flow, increased blood circulation and better sexual experiences
The prostate is a small gland that wraps around a man's urethra just under the bladder and works with the rest of the male reproductive system to complete fertilization. The prostate releases fluid that mixes with sperm and helps it survive longer when released into a woman's vagina. As a normal part of aging, the prostate experiences a growth spurt during a man's 40s. This condition is called benign prostatic hyperplasia, and it can cause urinary problems. Prostate glands can also become infected or develop cancer. There is even a condition called congestive prostatitis in which the prostatic fluid does not release normally, causing inflammation.
Some health care providers promote external prostate massage along with more traditional medical treatments like surgery or medicine. External prostate massage is the methodic rubbing of the perineum or pubic area to stimulate the prostate gland. There are professional massage therapists trained in prostate massage, but it can also be self-performed.
Symptoms from benign prostatic hyper plasia, non bacterial prostatitis and congestive prostatitis may improve through external prostate massage. External prostate massage improves blood flow to the prostate and urine flow. Sexual Benefits

If you are unsure of a reason for you, you MUST consult a physician..
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? CTS is common as a work-related, repetitive-motion injury. It occurs more often in women than in men, though there is no evidence that it is gender-specific. Rather, the incidence of the condition correlates to certain occupations. People who work on factory assembly lines, with computers, or in other jobs that require repetitive motion are more prone to CTS. Women are more highly represented in these types of positions than are men, which may be why CTS is more common among women. The median nerve is one of the nerves which supplies the hand. It passes through the wrist in a narrow channel called the carpal tunnel along with the flexor digitorum superficialis and flexor pollicis longus tendons. Inflammation of the muscles, tendons or a fracture of the wrist can reduce the space in the carpel tunnel and so cause pressure on the nerve. Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- A dull ache in the wrist and forearm with pain radiating in to the fingers.
- A burning wrist pain with numbness or loss of feeling in the thumb, index finger and middle finger which the median nerve supplies.
- Pain which is worse at night.
- Positive result for Tinels sign (symptoms reproduced when tapping the volar aspect of the wrist (inside).
- Carpel Tunnel Syndrome Treatment
- Causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Constant flexion and extension of the wrist causing irritation of the tendons which leads to inflammation and pressure on the median nerve.
- acute trauma to the wrist such as fracture of tenosynovitis
- gout
- arthritic conditions
- tumors
- pregnancy
- diabetes mellitus
- hypothyroidism
- aspartame reaction
- Neck and Shoulder Problems are the most common cause of wrist pain.
Prevention / Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome The following guidelines are for information purposes only. Seeking professional advice before beginning rehabilitation is recommended. Tests: Tap the inside of the wrist to se if there is a tingling sensation in the fingertips or hand. The First Step
Any underlying medical conditions, such as anemia, diabetes, nutritional deficiencies, kidney disease, thyroid disease, varicose veins, or Parkinson's disease, should be treated. Dietary supplements to correct vitamin or mineral deficiency may be recommended. For some people, these treatments are all that is needed to relieve RLS symptoms.
Massage has been practiced for thousands of years. Today, if you need or want a massage, you can choose from among 80 massage therapy styles with a wide variety of pressures, movements, and techniques. These all involve pressing, rubbing, or manipulating muscles and other soft tissues with hands and fingers. Sometimes even forearms, elbows, or feet are used.
Here is information you can use to help you decide what types of massage will work best for you.
You may wonder whether each was just part of a passing fad or the latest, greatest massage technique? Even more important is how can you tell whether the latest style will actually help you?
Before you can decide which massage style is best for you, you need to ask yourself a question. Do you simply want a massage for relaxation and stress control? Or do you need symptom relief or help with a certain health condition? Before booking a massage, let the therapist know what you're looking for and ask which style the therapist uses. Many use more than one style. Or the therapist may customize your massage, depending on your age, condition, or any special needs or goals you have.
Massage therapy styles: Swedish
The four common strokes of Swedish massage are:
- Effleurage: a smooth, gliding stroke used to relax soft tissue
- Petrissage: the squeezing, rolling, or kneading that follows effleurage
- Friction: deep, circular movements that cause layers of tissue to rub against each other, helping to increase blood flow and break down scar tissue
- Tapotement: a short, alternating tap done with cupped hands, fingers, or the edge of the hand
Deep tissue massage is best for giving attention to certain painful, stiff "trouble spots" in your body. The massage therapist uses slow, deliberate strokes that focus pressure on layers of muscles, tendons, or other tissues deep under your skin. Though less rhythmic than other types of massage, deep tissue massage can be quite therapeutic -- relieving chronic patterns of tension and helping with muscle injuries, such as back sprain.
Developed to help with muscle systems used for a particular sport, sports massage uses a variety of approaches to help athletes in training -- before, during, or after sports events. You might use it to promote flexibility and help prevent injuries. Or, it may help muscle strains, aiding healing after a sports injury.

“Massage Therapy for Symptom Control: Outcome Study at a Major Cancer Center” was conducted by staff of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York City.Data analysis revealed a 54-percent mean reduction of the presenting symptom following massage therapy. Specifically, anxiety was the symptom eased the most by massage therapy (60-percent reduction), and fatigue was the symptom eased the least (43 percent). Outpatients showed a 10-percent greater improvement in symptoms when compared to inpatients, perhaps due to the longer massage sessions the outpatients received.
Massage therapy eases the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and increases grip strength, according to a recent study.

Aggressive adolescents who received massage therapy had lower anxiety, reported feeling less hostile, and were perceived by their parents as less aggressive, according to a recent study.
Seventeen adolescents, ages 9 to 14, were recruited from a child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinic for the study. Aggression type (affective aggressive, predatory aggressive or mixed) was determined using the 10-item Aggression Questionnaire. Affective aggression is reactive, and is characterized by high levels of arousal and poor behavior control. Predatory aggression is goal-oriented, and is characterized by low arousal and planned behavior.
Women suffering from symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), such as irritability, headaches, anxiety and weight gain, felt relief from regular massage sessions, according to results from a recent research study.
For thousands of years, medicine in the world’s Eastern and Western cultures focused on people’s emotions and their essential "life force" to determine their health. A healthy flow of life force is required for wellness; a blocked blow can result in disease. These Alternative Systems to Western medicine built upon complete systems of theory and practice. Many of the alternative practices evolved separately from and earlier than the traditional approaches Western medicine used for the past 200 to 300 years.Massage therapy, which uses techniques that involve manipulation of the soft tissues of the body :Trager bodywork, which involves the light rocking and shaking of the patient's trunk and limbs in a rhythmic fashion
